Action Plan for
Stopping Energy Waste in your community
Action Plan for
Stopping Energy Waste in your Community
Energy waste is a very costly problem for communities
everywhere. These costs directly affect everyone by reducing cashflow into
the community and thus the ability to make business
improvements. As energy is wasted, public works projects and community efforts
are negatively affected. Less resources both in finances and in manpower leave
projects unfinished and communities in peril.
Informed community members can play an important role in tracking down
and stopping energy waste. Your community’s city council takes a role to empower
its people by giving them information and processes in which they can
participate to save energy. It is around this philosophy
that awarenessIDEAS built its Community Employee Awareness Energy
Conservation Program.
From creating awareness, developing interest, promoting motivation by
demonstrating benefits, moving people to action, to giving
recognition when deserved, we can be your partner in energy conservation.
For thirty years, our people have been helping clients design energy
awareness and process materials that track and reinforce good energy
habits. AwarenessIDEAS programs have been successfully used in
communities for many years. We customize ideas and products to fit your
needs. Here are some suggestions that are easily transferrable to your organization.
COMMUNITY ENERGY ACTION
PLAN
Set a standard for energy usage that everyone can agree upon. One
standard awarenessIDEAS recommends is: "All Processes shall conform
to the energy expectations and requirements designed into the system and only
in the amount of energy usage necessary to do the job. Just enough is enough
energy." Get that message across using every avenue of communications open
to you.
- Create Energy Teams to
coordinate activities throughout your community. Volunteers and social
groups need the direction and assistance of community groups to organize
and save energy
- Dress your Energy Teams in
wearables that give them recognition and identity. We can easily add your
community logo to any of these wearables.
- Let us create banners and posters
with your Energy Vision or Message. These can hang in your city hall,
civic center or any where else that a message of energy conservation would
be beneficial. Having a parade or civic event? We will develop banners and
messages to spread your goals of conservation.
- Have a suggestion contest
that lasts 30 days, once every 6 months. Have appropriate inexpensive awareness
gifts for thoughtful ideas. You’ll be pleased by the great ideas your community
members will have on conservation.
- Use our energy information
boards to hold posters and community energy information inserts. Make
these available to anyone who desires this kind of information at town
hall meetings and other social functions.
- Pass out our Energy Tip
Booklets to all your community’s families. Encourage each family to find
ways of reducing energy waste in their homes. Use family success stories
in each issue of your community newsletter or local newspaper. This is a
powerful way to keep your people talking about energy conservation and
their participation.
- Use energy posters to
spotlight specific kinds of energy waste in your Community and its
cost. Identifying individual
problem areas in your Community will lead to specific success stories.
- Have a contest each month
that relates to that months energy poster. A contest keeps the poster
message alive. People talk about the problem and therefore pay more
attention to solving it.
- Have a contest that
encourages each part of the community to improve its energy conservation
efforts. Give recognition for continuous achievement by citizens for being
successful energy activist champions.
- Use inexpensive awareness gifts
for playing an active role in using "Just enough energy." The smallest handouts and corporate
gifts can leave lasting impressions to both your Community employees and
Community guests
- Give rewards and recognition
to individuals and teams that staying on top of reducing energy
non-conformances in your Community.
